New Shared Branch Verification System for Out-of-State IDs Begins May 1, 2025

Starting May 1, 2025, you may notice a new verification process when visiting a shared branch location, especially if you’re using an out-of-state ID. The new IDCheck system adds an extra layer of security to help protect against identity theft and fraud during Shared Branch transactions.

This process applies only when using an out-of-state ID at a partner credit union in the shared branch network. It does not affect members completing transactions at their own credit union, even with an out-of-state ID.

What to Expect with IDCheck

  1. Scan the QR code in the branch or visit verify.coop.org.
  2. Select your credit union from the dropdown list.
  3. Enter your account number and the last four digits of your Social Security number.
  4. Agree to the terms and grant camera access.
  5. Take a photo of your ID and follow the on-screen prompts.
  6. Take a selfie to match your ID.
  7. Save your ID and photo to simplify future visits.
  8. Receive a one-time passcode, valid for 20 minutes.
  9. Show your code to the teller to complete your transaction.

Tip: Saving your ID and selfie means you can skip most of these steps next time, just scan the QR code and receive your passcode instantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I need to do this every time I visit a shared branch?
Not if you save your ID and selfie during your first verification. Future visits will be much faster.

Does this apply if I’m a Dirigo member visiting a Dirigo branch with an out-of-state ID?
No. This process only applies when visiting a partner location in the shared branch network, not your home credit union.

Can I use a military ID with IDCheck?
Unfortunately, military IDs are not compatible with this system due to federal regulations. If you’re using a military ID, please speak with the shared branch credit union for alternative verification options.
