Fraud Activity: Spoofing Attack What is “Spoofing”? This is a fraudulent or malicious practice in which communication is sent from an unknown person disguised as a source known to the receiver. Fraudsters will call claiming to be a “representative” from a financial institutions fraud monitoring department stating that there is fraud on the account. They will then ask for your private information to “help you”. The caller ID may appear to be generated from the actual financial institution. Receiving an unexpected call about fraud on your account from a number that appears to be originating from our credit union, or another institution, can be alarming. But Dirigo will NEVER contact you by phone and ask you to share account information. Don’t fall victim to a phone spoofing scam! Keep your personal information private. When in doubt, hang up!
